boat type: kayak/canoe/SUP
propulsion type: human
condition: good
length overall (LOA): 17
make / manufacturer: Peterborough
year manufactured: 1890
Length 17' x 42" wide. Original but in need of repair, such as: rudder and stern "cutwater" are missing; breasthook and guard need re-fastening. Copper roved cedar planking, 18 peer side. two pairs oarlocks.

This canoe is much like Rushton's 17-foot x 42" No 105, described on p. 11 of his 1878 catalog. (Reprints of Rushton's Portable Sporting Boats, 1878, are available at www.steamlaunch.com).

I was told it is a Peterborough when I bought it in Nelson, BC, in 1972, from its original owner's family, but I have no certainty. It is what it is. I am not getting around to repairing it. Collection of canoe sail rig hardware and miscellaneous white oak lumber comes with it.
